Monumento a los Corsarios

Monumento a los Corsarios (Avenida de las Andanas, Ibiza Town, Ibiza) — Ibiza city can boast of having a monument that is unique in the world – the Homenaje a los Corsarios (a statue to pay homage to pirates) erected right on Ibiza’s harbor, facing the port. Pirates played an important role on Ibiza from the 18th Century onwards, as they defended the island from enemy attacks by sea.
The monument was paid for by the people of Ibiza and the solemn unveiling ceremony took place on 6th August, 1925. The obelisk was created by the Catalan architect, August Font, who also had a part in the creation of the monument to General Vara de Rey. During the San Salvador festivities at the beginning of August, an official ceremony takes place here when floral wreaths are laid at the foot of the monument.
