Dalt Vila

Dalt Vila
Dalt Vila (Ibiza Town, Ibiza) – this section of Ibiza Town was once a fortified city that was designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1999. Tourists come here for, among other reasons, the spectacular view of the city and harbor areas. A Gothic cathedral (built in the 14th century) is located on the highest point of Dalt Vila. Along with that is the Chapel of Our Savior (which houses the Archaeological Museum of Ibiza and Formentera). There, one can find artifacts from the Prehistoric era, the Phoenician colonization, the Roman Empire, and the Moorish occupation. In fact, at the front entrance of Dalt Vila itself, one will come across two headless statues from Ibiza’s Roman period. The lower parts of Dalt Vila have a variety of shop and bars that cater to the tourists that flood Ibiza Town during the Summer. Fireworks shows are sometimes held over Dalt Vila during that time of year.
